LIGHT OF THE SAINTS
by Cory Heimann and Tricia Dugat
This fun saint-themed picture book from the new Word on Fire imprint Spark is gorgeous, and interactive too! Readers can shine a light on the back side of some pages to illuminate a hidden image – like the image of Our Lady on St. Juan Diego’s tilma. The book covers the lives of fascinating saints from diverse backgrounds. It’s sure to have little ones reading under the covers – with their parents’ approval for once!
DIGITAL DISCIPLE
Augustine Institute – Voyage Comics
The creators of the popular Finnian and the Seven Mountains comic series have paired up with the Augustine Institute to bring us a new comic book based on the life of Blessed Carlo Acutis. With engaging illustrations and relatable settings, it shares the last few years of the life of this soccer-playing, tech-loving teen and how he used his short life to share the love of God with others. It includes a timeline of his life and of his journey (so far!) to sainthood, and concludes with the official prayer for the canonization of Carlo Acutis.
ENCOUNTERING SIGNS OF FAITH
by Allison Gingras
Encountering Signs of Faith is the personal journey of author and podcaster Allison Gingras’s spiritual growth aided by the tangible aspects of our Catholic theology and tradition – called sacramentals. As she shares how things like the Miraculous Medal, lectio divina, and holy water strengthened her faith, she also provides ideas for incorporating sacramentals into our lives by providing examples from the lives of the saints. Interwoven throughout the book is the beautiful story of how she trusted God while adopting her daughter Faith, who is profoundly deaf.
THE SISTER SERAPHINA MYSTERIES by Haley Stewart
The first two books in Haley Stewart’s new Sister Seraphina Mysteries (also fondly called the Mouse Nuns series) are sure to enchant readers ages 4 to 8. They capture the secret lives of the Sisters of Our Lady Star of the Sea and their students, who live under the floorboards of G.K. Chesterton’s house, as they search for clues to solve gentle mysteries. The illustrations by Betsy Wallin take these sweet stories from cozy read- alouds to the very best of immersive children’s literature. Both of these gorgeously formatted children’s chapter books from Pauline Media would make wonderful gifts for Christmas or Easter.
THE WOMEN DOCTORS OF THE CHURCH by Colleen Pressprich
The Catholic Church gives the designation “Doctor of the Church” to saints who have made significant contributions to theology or doctrine with their teachings. Of the 37 Doctors, 4 are women. Colleen Pressprich tells their stories in inspiring prose alongside Adalee Hude’s vibrant illustrations in this new picture book just published by Our Sunday Visitor. Children will be inspired by the unique ways these women used
their gifts to serve God and others. It’s perfect for
sharing with the whole family and will especially appeal to those ages 6 to 9.
