Day 20: Mary is the New Eve

“The knot of Eve’s disobedience was loosed by the obedience of Mary. For what the virgin Eve had bound fast by unbelief, this did the virgin Mary set free by faith. ” ~ St. Irenaeus of Lyons

Now that we focused on who we are, we will spend the next few days learning who Mary is. Today we are learning about her as the new Eve.

In the story of Adam and Eve, Eve disobeyed God’s instructions to not eat out of the tree of Knowledge.  She did not trust God and disobeyed Him. As a result, they were sent out of Heaven.

However, God did not abandon us. He has put forth His plan to bring us back home to Him. When the time had come He asked Mary to be the mother of Jesus. Her “yes” was out of her trust and obedience to God. As a result, when Jesus’ mission was complete, the gates of Heaven opened for us.

Prayer: Mary, pray for us that we always obey God and want to do what He asks of us.
