Day 1 : Mary Points to God

“My soul magnifies the Lord.”

At the Annunciation, Mary accepts God’s request for her to be the mother of Jesus. What a big job! She was free to say yes or no, but she said yes. When she visited her cousin Elizabeth, Elizabeth was honored that the “mother of the Lord shall come to me.”

Mary’s response was what we call the Magnificat. Instead of being prideful, (thinking was better than others because of it) she pointed to God. The first words of the prayer are, “My soul magnifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my savior.”

We can follow her example in our own lives. We may be tempted to think we don’t need God. But that is not true!  Since He is the Creator of everything. He has created us out of love and has a special plan for us too. We would have nothing without him. And without Jesus, we couldn’t enter Heaven.

What can we do? We can show Jesus we are thankful for everything He did for us as God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Every night before bed, say a brief prayer thanking God for all the Gifts He gives us every day.

Prayer:

O Mary, help us to be humble and not full of pride.
