Lk 24:1-12

Retold by Jennifer Gladen

Early Sunday morning after Jesus’ crucifixion, Mary Magdalene, Joanna,  and Mary the mother of James took spices they had
prepared and went to Jesus’ tomb.

When they arrived, they saw the stone which once sealed the tomb
was now rolled away. They went inside, but they did not Jesus’ body.
While they were discussing this and trying to figure out what
happened, two angels appeared to them.

Frightened, the women bowed their faces to the ground.
The angels said to the women, “Why do you seek the living among
the dead? He is not here, but he has been raised. Remember what
he said to you while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must
be handed over to sinners, be crucified, and rise on the third day.”
Immediately, they left and found the apostles to tell them all that
they learned. The apostles didn’t believe what they were hearing as
it didn’t make sense to them. Peter ran off to the tomb and saw that
Jesus was gone and the burial clothes remained.
