Memorial of the Guardian Angels
Saturday, October 2, 2021 is the memorial of our Guardian Angels. It is a day to reflect on and give thanks to God for His divine protection through our guardian angels. We hear Jesus speak of our angels Matthew 18:10. He says, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”

What do our angels do? Through the Bible and through the teachings of the saints and the Church, we have learned that our guardian angles are beings appointed by God to help us throughout our lives from birth until death. We seem to be aware of then when they protect us from physical danger, but they have an even more important concern for us. They help us in fighting sin. St. John Bosco, a saint who lived in the 1800s, said this about sin and our guardian angels: “When tempted, invoke your angel. Ignore the devil and do not be afraid of him: He trembles and flees at your guardian angel’s sight.”
